A pedestrian was struck and killed during a crash in Bristol Thursday night.

Police officers responded to Middle Street, in the area of Lake Avenue, just before 11:45 p.m. on the report of a crash and found a woman suffering injuries, according to the Bristol Police Department.

The first officer on the scene performed life-saving efforts on the victim until medics and members of the Bristol Fire Department arrived and took over medical care. The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld until her family can be notified.

According to police, the woman was starting to cross Middle Street when a motorist headed south in a small SUV struck her. The driver stopped as well as a witness who checked on the pedestrian, police said.

The driver involved did not report any injuries and has been cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

The police department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is investigating the crash. Middle Street was closed in the area of the crash for nearly six hours while officers were on scene.
