Bristol Eastern girls overcome injuries and illness, defeat Platt Friday night, 39-26

Bristol Eastern travelled to Meriden Friday night missing three key starters, including their two leading scorers, Autumn Udoh and Vanessa Drury, and Amanda Noel, a key inside rebounder and defender. Drury was out with an injury, and Udoh and Noel were out due to illness. Things were looking pretty grim for the Lancers and Coach Tony Floyd.

But into the void would step three freshmen to lead the Lancers to victory. Savannah Drury scored 16 points, Cassie Sward added 11, and Natalia Vye chipped in with 9 to lead Bristol Eastern to a 39-26 decision.

Leah Roy was huge for BE on the boards, pulling down 11 rebounds, and leading the team in assists with 5.

The game was still in doubt heading into the fourth quarter with Eastern leading by only six, 31-25. But the Lancers clamped down on defense by holding Platt to a single point in the final stanza and pulling away for the 13 point final margin.

Bristol Eastern is now 13-4 with three games remaining in the regular season.

Their next game is at Berlin Monday night at 6:00.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
