Lancers fall to Rocky Hill in CCC girls basketball tournament, 57-49

Basketball

The Bristol Eastern girls played another nerve-wracking game against Rocky Hill Thursday night, with the Lancers one point down with two minutes remaining. But the Terriers of Rocky Hill totally took control in the final minutes to pull away for a 57-49 victory.

Kelsey LeMay and Madisyn Aurigemma scored 18 and 20 points respectively for Rocky Hill. They each also scored huge baskets at the conclusion to seal the victory.

Eastern’s Autumn Udoh led her team in scoring and rebounding, pouring in 20 points and gathering 12 rebounds.

Vanessa Drury scored nine as did her sister, Savannah, and Amanda Noel added eight for the Lancers.

Neither team could pull away in the first 30 minutes of action. The Lancers led by one, 14-13, at the end of the first stanza and by a 29-28 count at the half.

Rocky Hill took a one-point advantage at the end of the third quarter, and the game saw the lead see-saw both ways throughout the fourth.

In the final minutes, the Lancers suffered from several costly turnovers and missed shots, as nothing went right for them down the stretch.

Rocky Hill now advances to the quarter finals, playing top seed Conard at Plainville High School on Saturday.

Bristol Eastern now has to wait for the CIAC State Tournament to begin on Feb. 26. They have not received their seeding or opponent yet,but are assured of a first-round home game.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
