Bristol Eastern boys win first round match-up in CCC Basketball Tournament, defeating Glastonbury, 58-51

Bristol Eastern broke open a tight contest by scoring 26 points in the fourth quarter to pull out a 58-51 verdict over Glastonbury from the Lancerdome on Thursday night.

Glastonbury held the slightest of edges through the first three periods, holding a one point advantage going into the final stanza.

Lukas Sward led the Lancer explosion in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 of his 14 points in the final minutes. Sward hit 7 of 8 fouls shots at the end to help seal the deal. Zaveyn Tate tied with Sward for high scoring honors at 14, as he drove effectively to the hoop throughout the game.

The Lancers exhibited a balanced attack throughout the night, as Brayden Dauphinais and Jordan Chisholm kicked in 13 points apiece for B.E..

Glastonbury’s star junior, David Smith, poured in 27 points to keep his team in the game. One of his baskets in the second half put him over the 1,000 point mark, and he still has another year to go.

In one sequence, Smith seemingly launched from the foul line to score on an attempted dunk, but Eastern’s Brady Bell drew an offensive foul on the play, stifling a possible surge by Glastonbury in the second half.

The Lancers now move on to a second round match-up with 2nd ranked Windsor on Saturday at 7:00 at Enfield High School. Windsor defeated RHAM, 76-60 on Thursday.
