Marilyn Jean (King) Wentland, affectionately known as “Jean,” passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024 at Countryside Manor of Bristol, at the age of 87. She was the devoted wife for 64 years to George J. Wentland, until his passing in 2020.
Jean was born on August 18, 1936, in Rutland, Vermont and was raised in a nurturing home in Bristol, CT, forever blessed and thankful for the love and support provided by the selflessness of the Rindfleisch family during her adolescent years. At a young age, Jean met the love of her life, George, and upon high school graduation the two were married and raised three sons.
Jean was employed by The Hartford Insurance Company, retiring after many dedicated years to her profession. In addition, alongside her husband, Jean was a longtime devoted member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bristol.
Jean loved taking pictures of her family and was affectionately called "kathy kodak." Her family is grateful now for those many pictures that capture her love of her family, especially her grandchildren.
Jean's love for her family was boundless and while we mourn the loss of such a remarkable woman, we find comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her beloved husband and sons, whom she longed to be with.
Beloved "Nanny," Jean is survived by her grandchildren, Kacey, Tyler, Kyle, Ryan, Chad, Molly, Nicholas and Michael Wentland, and Justin Zakrzewski, along with many great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, George J. Wentland, Jean was predeceased by her three sons, Barry, Scott, and Jeffrey Wentland and her brother, Don King.
In lieu of flowers, Jean may be remembered with contributions to the ALS Association of Connecticut, 4 Oxford Rd, Unit 4E, Milford, CT 06460 (als.org) or to St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1125 Stafford Ave., Bristol (standrewct.org).
A Memorial Service to celebrate the lives of Jean and George Wentland will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1125 Stafford Ave., Bristol with burial to follow in Peacedale Cemetery, James P.
