Special Author Chat with Jordan Lopez

Special Author Chat with Jordan Lopez
Bristol Public Library

Author talk followed by Q & A and book signing. Light refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Bristol Public Library.
Join us as we chat with Bristol’s own Jordan Lopez about his exciting first novel, Looked Down Upon: The Exiled Kin (released in August of 2023), his influences, and his career as a young writer who didn’t let a childhood with autism interfere with achieving his goals!

More information about Jordan Lopez and his work: www. jordanalopez.com.

Jordan Lopez is a poet and an aspiring author. Born and raised in Connecticut, as an autistic child he was misunderstood by many of my peers and teachers but that never stopped him from chasing his goals. Growing up, reading and writing weren’t great influences or interests, but while in college one of his essays was published in the college magazine. From there on his passion for writing was ignited and couldn’t be put out. He began writing poems and short stories. In 2019, he began to write his first novel. He is an advocate for people with disabilities and a Special Olympics athlete.

Newbery Honor Author RAJANI LAROCCA visits the Library

Newbery Honor Award Winning Author, RAJANI LAROCCA visits the Bristol Public Library on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. The event is FREE, lunch served at 1:00 p.m. Call the library today at 860-584-7787 ext. 3 to register and save your spot for this awesome program!

Here is Rajani LaRocca's story: I was born in Bangalore, India and immigrated to the U.S. as a baby. I spent most of my childhood in Louisville, Kentucky.

I attended Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, and trained in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. I’ve been working as a primary care physician since 2001. I live in eastern Massachusetts with my wonderful husband, our two brilliant kids, and an impossibly cute dog.

I’ve always been an omnivorous reader – cereal boxes, comic books, fortune cookie fortunes, magazine articles, and, of course, novels. The books I read as a child helped shape who I am today in ways that I’m still discovering. Books inspired me to pursue medicine as a career; books made me yearn to live in different worlds; books helped me consider what it’s like to walk in someone else’s shoes. I still love realistic fiction with puzzles or riddles (like The Westing Game), realistic fiction with a touch of magic (like A Wrinkle in Time), and full-blown sci-fi and fantasy (like The Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter series). I also love anything to do with Shakespeare. I believe that promoting diversity in children’s literature leads to empathy, and empathy makes the world a better place.

The Drifters – Downtown Live at The Rockwell Theater

Sat Apr 20, 2024 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM EDT

Up on the Roof. Under the Boardwalk. This Magic Moment. There Goes My Baby. Dance with Me. Spanish Harlem. Stand by Me. The list of hits goes on and on.

THE DRIFTERS…one of Rock & Roll’s founding vocal groups is once again touring the U.S. under the auspices of their original management team.

From their inception in the early 1950's and up until recently, THE DRIFTERS has a symbiotic relationship with Rock & Roll legend George Treadwell, who has discovered and managed such famous artists as Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn and Nina Simone. The Treadwell Family was there when the original DRIFTERS formed and was responsible for guiding their career through 20 years of uninterrupted hits that has made them the second most successful recording artist of all time, according to Billboard Magazine. You don't want to miss this show at Downtown Live!
